Herein, we discuss the synthesis as well as material and photochemical characterization of nanometer‐sized Ta2O5 decorated, in a controlled fashion, on top of 20 nm diameter SiO2 particles to yield a composite oxide with a tunable band‐gap width. Particular emphasis is paid to control of particle size, and control of the distribution of the overlying oxide. The nanoscale dimension imparts a high surface area and introduces quantum confinement effects that displace the conduction band more negatively and the valence band more positively on the electrochemical scale of potentials. This band shift results in an increase of the number of possible participants in photocatalytic reactions. The band shift is shown to result in an increase in driving force for thermodynamically feasible reactions. By decorating SiO2 with smaller‐sized Ta2O5, the interplay of the Lewis acidity of SiO2 and the contact area between Ta2O5 and SiO2 is utilized to develop a photocatalyst with higher photoactivity than pure Ta2O5.  相似文献

Highly conductive biocompatible graphene is synthesized using ecofriendly reduction of graphene oxide (GO). Two strains of non‐pathogenic extremophilic bacteria are used for reducing GO under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Degree of reduction and quality of bacterially reduced graphene oxide (BRGO) are monitored using UV–vis spectroscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. Structural morphology and variation in thickness are characterized using electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy, respectively. Electrical measurements by three‐probe method reveal that the conductivity has increased by 104–105 fold from GO to BRGO. Biocompatibility assay using mouse fibroblast cell line shows that BRGO is non‐cytotoxic and has a tendency to support as well as enhance the cell growth under laboratory conditions. Hereby, a cost effective, non‐toxic bulk reduction of GO to biocompatible graphene for green electronics and bioscience application is achieved using halophilic extremophiles for the first time.  相似文献

Spherical uniform-sized iron ferrite nanoparticles were synthesized by adding a disaccharide and seed ferrite crystals into an aqueous reaction solution. The average size range 50-150 nm was controlled by choosing one out of five disaccharides and by changing the amount of the seed crystals. The particles had a saturation magnetization and a crystalline structure which are similar to those of intermediate Fe3O4-γ-Fe2O3. When coated with citrate, the particles with nearly 100 nm diameter were stably suspended in water for 2 days. These novel particles will be utilized as magnetic carriers in biomedical applications.  相似文献

High-performance carbon-doped-base GaAs/AlGaAs heterobipolar transistors (HBTs) were grown by gas-source MBE using only gaseous sources including dopant sources. The AlGaAs emitter layer was doped with Si from uncracked SI2H6 (n = 9 × 1017 cm-3), and the base layer (92.5 nm) was doped with carbon from TMG (p = 4 × 1019 cm-3). From SIMS analysis it was confirmed that a well-defined emitter-base junction with sharp carbon profile was obtained. The base-current ideality factor from the Gummel plot was 1.47, and the emitter-base junction ideality factor was 1.12. A high DC current gain of 53 was obtained at a current density of 4 × 104 A/cm2. The device characteristics of our carbon-doped HBTs were found to be stable under current stress.  相似文献

Platinum (Pt)-based electrocatalysts are at the vanguard of research initiatives to meet activity and durability targets for promoting large-scale adoption of fuel cell vehicles. Ex situ characterization of electrocatalyst activity and durability using cyclic voltammetry (CV) has a steep learning curve. Thus, many researchers who do not receive formal training in electrochemistry are left unsure how to proceed. Herein, we identify and compile prudent practices for reliable assessment of ECSA values with examples from our research on nanoscale catalytic films formed by the self-terminating electrodeposition of Pt. Starting with a conceptual framework to understand typical features in the CV of reversible redox couples, we present prudent practices in acquiring CV data aimed at nonelectrochemists. We then highlight specific features related to ECSA computation from Pt CV. Finally, we suggest safeguards that help avoid missteps and achieve repeatable results while conducting ex situ durability tests that extend over days.  相似文献

Photoinduced diffusion in Se/As2S3 and Sb/As2S3 nanomultilayered thin films are studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The XPS measurements show the atomic movements during photoinduced diffusion in Se/As2S3 and Sb/As2S3 nanomultilayered film. A conformationally flexible triazole‐carboxylic acid ligand derived from an L ‐amino acid, namely, 4 H‐1,2,4‐triazol‐4‐yl‐acetic acid (αHGlytrz), has been exploited to synthesize a structurally diverse and functionally intriguing metal–organic framework with CuSiF6. The crystal structure reveals a novel single‐walled metal–organic nanotube (SWMONT), namely, {[Cu33‐OH)(H2O)3(Glytrz)3] ? SiF6 ? 8 H2O ? X} ( 1 ), (where X=disordered lattice water molecules) having a pore size as large as zeolites. Compound 1 was synthesized as crystals, as powder, or as layers by precipitation/electrodeposition. Mercury intrusion porosimetry demonstrates the ability of this material to store metallic mercury, after a pressure treatment, contrary to previous literature examples.  相似文献

Sixteen composites of a hydrogelator N,N′-bis(4-pyridyl) urea 1 and a nongelator N,N′-bis(3-pyridyl) urea 2 with a series of dicarboxylic acids having various backbones have been prepared and characterized. Seven such composites—three from the composites of 1 and four from the composites of 2—turned out to be good to moderate gelling agents for pure water. Single crystal X-ray structures of three such gelators and four nongelators indicate that microporosity in the crystalline solid state structure may be one of the important criteria for hydrogelation.  相似文献

For affinity purification of drug target protein we have developed magnetic carriers, narrow in size distribution (184±9 nm), which exhibit minimal non-specific binding of unwanted proteins. The carriers were highly dispersed in aqueous solutions and highly resistant to organic solvents, which enabled immobilization of various hydrophobic chemicals as probes on the carrier surfaces. Utilizing the carriers we have automated the process of separation and purification of the target proteins that had been done by manual operation previously.  相似文献
